What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive form of natural, holistic therapy using gentle thumb and finger techniques on specific points, called reflexes, which are found mainly on the feet and hands. The reflexes correspond to various organs, systems and structures.

Reflexology involves stimulation or calming of these reflex points which may bring about responses in other parts or areas of the body.

I offer Light Touch Reflexology, a technique which has proved popular with clients especially those with stress related conditions. Reflexes, or pressure points on the feet are gently massaged or stroked with or without the use of oils depending on the Clients choice. The gentle stimulation of the reflexes assist with the body's natural healing properties.

Clients can expect to feel extremely relaxed at the end of a treatment, some even fall asleep! A full treatment sequence can last about 50 minutes, the whole session is about an hour long. My treatments are not hurried and you will be given ample time to recover as you may feel tired afterwards.

Reflexology is potentially suitable for anyone and any condition. People coping with the aches and pains of life, women with menstrual problems, sports injuries, people with work related stresses, all may benefit. Also reflexology treatment may assist in regulating sleeping patterns.

Reflexology can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment. If you are unsure if it is suitable for you I can offer a free telephone consultation to rule out any contraindications (reasons for not having a treatment)

Reflexology aims to enhance overall health,

by aiming to:-

  • Reduce stress
  • Improve circulation
  • Cleanse the body of impurities
  • Revitalise energy
  • Re-balance the whole body system

Treatments will be unique to each individual, as people's needs and responses can vary considerably. A detailed consultation and medical history will be taken, the treatment plan will be tailored to the information given, to ensure the best outcome possible.

Aftercare advice

Always allow enough time before and after treatment sessions, late arrival may mean cutting your appointment time short. I would advise you to choose to have your treatment at a time you can go home to relax afterwards if you possibly can and drink plenty of water to get the full benefit from your session.

Reflexology is believed to assist in detoxifying the body. You will be offered a drink of water before or after the treatment. It may be beneficial to reduce intake of alcohol and caffeine based drinks and to continue to drink water after treatment as this may help continue the process of elimination of toxins.
